Total catch in August less than last year
The overall catch of Icelandic vessels in August was 104,5 thousand tonnes, a 13% decrease from August 2017, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Statistics Iceland.
Demersal catch was just over 37 thousand tonnes and decreased by 2 thousand tonnes (18%) compared with August last year. Pelagic catch was 62 thousand tonnes and declined by 19%. Pelagic catch consisted mostly of mackerel, 54 thousand tonnes. Flatfish catch was 3,352 tonnes and shellfish catch was 2,156 tonnes.
In the 12 month period from September 2017 to August 2018 the total catch was just under 1,389 thousand tonnes, a decrease of 5% compared with the same period a year earlier.
The price value index was 5% less than in August 2017.
