Salmon season in Kamchatka to start on June 1, 2021

May 12, 2021 00:56

This year's salmon season in Kamchatka looks quite promising, reports Megafishnet.com.

According to the region’s government, traditionally, the fishery will start in the Ust-Kamchatsky district and the Aleutian District. On the West Coast, the main fishery will open from July with minor earlier exceptions.

This year, good fishing is expected both on the east and west coasts with about 350 thousand tons to catch. This is a very good indicator – the third largest volume of forecasts in the entire history of observations. We hope that this year the forecast will come true and we will not see discrepancies in the actual runs and forecast values from science, " said Andrey Zdetovetsky, Minister of Fisheries of the Kamchatka Territory.

Last year the preliminary forecast of salmon catch in the Kamchatka Territory was 240 thousand tons. In fact, 191 thousand tons were caught.
