HB Grandi reports on fine and big mackerel
Production has been going well at HB Grandi’s pelagic plant in Vopnafjörður this summer and the end of this year’s quota is in sight. According to HB Grandi’s Vopnafjörður factory manager Magnús Róbertsson, the mackerel have been large, good quality fish with an average weight over the summer of 450 to 470 grammes, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to the company.
Víkingur docked in Vopnafjörður at midday Yesterday and skipper Albert Sveinsson said that this had been a satisfactory trip.
‘We have around 1100 tonnes and most of this was caught in three tows. The mackerel have grown as the summer has progressed and the fish in our first haul were around 500 grammes. Then the average weight dropped a little and further catches were just under 500 grammes on average,’ Albert Sveinsson said, commenting that in this trip they were able to avoid the storm now battering fishing grounds.
´We steamed through a storm all the way home and it looks like the forecast for the next few days isn’t good. As for what comes next, there’s mackerel and after that we move on to Atlanto-Scandian herring. Bjarni Ólafsson is searching for herring and we hope they’re doing well,’ Albert Sveinsson said.
