HB GRandi: Frozen capelin shipped out at Vopnafjordur

January 20, 2012 08:36

So far this year 2800 tonnes of capelin have been frozen at HB Grandi's pelagic processing plant in Vopnafjördur. The market for this is in several eastern European countries and this week 1800 tonnes of frozen capelin products were shipped onto a reefer vessel, reports www.megafishnet.com.

Capelin catches to date by HB Grandi's pelagic vessels have come to 13,800 tonnes since the first landing of the year was made at Vopnafjördur on the 5th of January. Three pelagic vessels have been fishing on capelin and now Víkingur AK is also set to take part in the fishery. Víkingur is due to dock today in Vopnafjördur to take on its capelin purse seine before leaving for fishing grounds. Ingunn AK, Faxi RE and Lundey NS are all in port now due to bad weather. There was a storm on the fishing grounds that blew up yesterday morning and the weather is expected to improve during the night so that fishing can start again tomorrow.
