HB Grandi: Fishmeal production at full speed

January 26, 2012 14:18

So far this year approximately 11,000 tonnes of capelin have been landed HB Grandi's fishmeal production plant at Vopnafjördur. 1200 tonnes of capelin meal was shipped out from Vopnafjördur at the beginning of the week and although frozen products have already been shipped out this week, this is the first meal shipment of the year, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to HB Grandi.

According to Sveinbjörn Sigmundsson, HB Grandi's factory manager at Vopnafjördur, production has been going well. All of the capelin landed at the plant is passed through a grading system to separate the fish unsuitable for freezing which is routed to meal production.

When we spoke to Sveinbjörn Sigmundsson, Lundey NS was alongside in Vopnafjördur, while the other three company pelagic vessels, Ingunn AK, Faxi RE and Víkingur AK were all either on fishing grounds east of Iceland or on the way there. Lundey was due to sail yesterday evening, and the next vessel due to land is Ingunn, which is still fishing.
