Russian catch and quota progress in Northeast/Northwest Atlantic and Central East Atlantic to November 2020

December 7, 2020 14:45

In November 2020 few Russian trawlers were hunting for various species on the grounds of East and West Greenland, NAFO regulatory area and in the Mauritanian EEZ, reports Megafishnet.com.

According to FishNet.ru, when the Russian quota (1675 tonnes) for black halibut capture in the West Greenland zone was exhausted, Novaya Zemlya trawler based in Murmansk resumed the dedicated ocean perch fishery in the Northwest Atlantic (NAFO regulatory area) from 17 to 22 November. Through those days of November, the trawler caught 197 tons of fish, mostly redfish (95%) with halibut and cod each contributing 2% to the harvest and flounder - 1%.

From the beginning of the year through to November the Russian catch of black halibut totalled 4,864 tonnes out of the Russian quota of 5,207 tonnes.

Mauritania

In the EEZ of Mauritania, two trawlers from Kaliningrad and two trawlers from the Far East Basin were engaged in the pelagic trawl fishery. The fishery situation was weak almost throughout the month. Tuna and sea bream dominated in catches of Kaliningrad vessels, sardines and tuna - in the Far Eastern vessels.

The Russian catches in the Mauritanian waters in November amounted to 3,300 tonnes (+900 tonnes), of which sardines accounted for 24%, horse mackerel - 16%, mackerel - 7%, sardinella - 5%, other fish species - 48%.

Russia’s total catch in the Mauritanian EEZ from the beginning of the year amounted to 69,400 tonnes, up from 59,700 tonnes last year.
