Russia’s Norwegian Sea catch and quota progress in May 2021

June 11, 2021 15:03

In May 2021 Russian fleets continued targeting herring, Northern blue whiting and black halibut in the Norwegian Sea, reports Megafishnet.com.

According to Fishnet.ru, in May 2021 six Kaliningrad-based vessels and eight vessels coming from Murmansk were targeting blue whiting in the waters of the Faroese Islands. As the stock started migrating northwards, the fishery situation grew unstable, though remained satisfactory in general.

The blue whiting catch in the area in May 2021 amounted to 25,600 tonnes (-20,400 tonnes). The total catch from the beginning of the year amounted to 79,800 tonnes (97.3% of the Russian quota for blue whiting capture in the Faroese waters, namely 82,000 tonnes). In 2020 the respective result by the same day of the year was 90,900 tonnes.

Note: According to the order No.714 dated 21 December 2020 of Russia’s Federal Agency for Fishery, in the Faroese fishing zone the nation’s vessels are allowed to harvest up to 25% of the Russian quota for blue whiting capture in the NEAFC Regulatory Area.
