LUNDEY BACK FISHING

July 20, 2015 09:09

A fault in the main engine has kept Lundey NS away from joining the mackerel fishery for a few days. According to skipper Albert Sveinsson, the engine has just had a complete overhaul, but one of the pistons failed as the engine was started up.

‘We had to wait a few days for replacement parts and the repair job to be finished, but now we’re on the fishing grounds,’ he said when we spoke to him yesterday, just as they were finishing hauling at the end of the first tow south of the Westmann Islands.

‘It’s around thirty tonnes and we take care not to tow more than three to a maximum of five hours once we see fish entering the gear. This is fine quality fish and the average fish size from this short tow today was 390 grammes,’ Albert Sveinsson said.
