Fish consumption in Russia quickly rising

More specifically, according to the market investigation of analysts of Symbol Marketing, the turnover in seafood sector in 2009 amounted to USD9.2 billion, up 36.7% from the previous year level.

The tendency of increasing fish consumption kept in 2006 - 2009 in Russia, with the growth rate always exceeding 31.6% level.

Totally, the share of fish products in the value of the list of main food products of an average household amounted to 6.2%. In 2009 average consumption of fish products in Russia amounted to 20.2kg per capita. In fishing regions of Russia this share was much higher and exceeded the average Russian level by 71.2% in the Russian Far East and by 37.4% in the North-West of Russia.

Chukotka won the first place in fish products consumption rating exceeding the average Russian level 4 times.
