Farmers of the Russian North West increase trout and sturgeon output

Leningrad Oblast (the region surrounding Saint Petersburg) has become a leader among the Russian Federation's provinces in the volume of farmed market-sized valuable fish species, according to the information office of the regional government.

According to the summary list of the cattle breeding department working under the Russia's Ministry of Agriculture, Leningrad Oblast took the second place in the trout production (2 476 tonnes)and the forth in the sturgeon farming in 2007.

In 2008 five more fish farms are going to be established in the region.
