Since 1974, when Bertus Bakker began a business unloading fish in the Port of Ijmuiden, the company Bakker Vis has continued to grow. It is currently managed by Martijn Spilt and Martin Riemer who buy, process and deliver all kinds of seafood, their cold store holding up to 60,000 kg. of fish.

IJmuiden is a major sea-fishing centre. Its strong competitive position in the fishing industry is due both to its favourable geographic location and to the accumulated experience and expertise available from its fish processing companies.

Bakker Vis also has a strong social responsibility, they sponsor the Stichting Liboke foundation that fights poverty in the Congo by supporting projects promoting environmentally responsible fishing in Congolese waters. (www.liboke.nl )

Martijn Spilt, Managing Director and one of the two shareholder of Bakker Vis states "We are a dynamic company: our consumers demand sustainable seafood and we meet their requests. We are happy to embrace Friend of the Sea."
