Cumbrian Seafoods Named Among The Best In Europe
Cumbrian Seafoods has been named among the top 100 food and drink manufacturers in the UK and Ireland, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Cumbrian Seafoods.
Cumbrian Seafoods, which operates from a state-of-the-art plant in Seaham, County Durham, has been listed alongside some of the biggest names in food manufacturing in the new list.
Compiled by Food and Drink Business Europe, the ratings include global giants such as Unilever, Cadbury, Heinz and Coca Cola along with organisations such as Kellogg UK, Britvic and drinks specialist Diageo.
Cumbrian Seafoods, which supplies seafood to all of the UK's leading supermarket chains, is ranked at 93 in the listings and is one of only a handful of independently-owned companies to feature.
Companies were listed based on turnover and pre-tax profit figures, with Cumbrian Seafoods reporting £155.5m turnover and pre-tax profit of £2.7m.
The report highlighted the changes in the industry but said that after a quiet period for mergers and acquisitions "there are indications of recovery since the start of 2011."
Howard Sims, managing director of Cumbrian Seafoods said the company had been involved in a number of initiatives in recent months which has helped consolidate sales including winning the contract to become Asda's main supplier of chilled cod and haddock and becoming the first company in the UK to display the new Icelandic eco-label.
"Cumbrian Seafoods has been a successful business for many years, but after an investment program totalling £20million building new facilities at Seaham and upgrading our West Lakes Smokery at Whitehaven, we have grown substantially with all of our major customers and intend to continue this trend capitalising on new opportunities," said Mr Sims.
"In the three months I have been with the business, I have quickly been drawn into the senior team's passion for our products, our customers and our people. "My previous business experience sees me already aligned with these values and, specific to the sector we are in, our responsibilities to this and future generations, in responsibly drawing from the world's stock of fish."
