As per early December Vyborg Shipyard has launched “Barents Sea” trawler-processor for Arkhangelsk Trawl Fleet, design KMT01, according to the yard.

The event is unique for Russia indeed as it is for the first time in the nation’s modern history when a vessel of a similar size, built at home and outrigged with state-of-the-art highly automated equipment, is set afloat. Laid on May 31, 2017 the trawler-processor is a lead ship in a series of four to be built at Vyborg Shipyard on a turnkey basis.

The construction of the series is carried out under the government program of investment quotas linked to building fishing vessels at domestic shipyards. The first-in-class trawler-processor has been ordered by Arkhangelsk Trawl Fleet, which is part of the North-West Fisheries Consortium.

Each vessel of the series will be equipped with up-to-date trawling complex and a fish processing factory capable of processing up to 160 tonnes of raw material per day. The KMT01 project has the dimensions of 86 by 17 meters, it will have Ice3 class with the hull reinforcement up to Arc4 class and is designed to work in the North Fishery Basin. Automated on-board factory and fishmeal plant will produce fillets, fish oil, fishmeal and canned fish.
