Chinese investors intend to build marine biotechnology park in Primorye

Chinese investors are going to create a marine biotechnopark on the island of Popov in Primorye. Wen Lian Aquaculture representatives said this during a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation - Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev today, March 13, in Khabarovsk. The Governor of the Primorsky Territory Vladimir Miklushevsky took part in the negotiations.

The company Wen Lian Aquaculture intends to implement in Primorye an investment project on aquaculture. The preliminary agreement on development of this direction in the region was signed by Vladimir Miklushevsky with partners from the PRC at the Eastern Economic Forum.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wen Lian Aquaculture, Qiu Laiichong, addressed a question whose solution will allow the company development in Primorye. So, by the present time the business plan of the project on creation of marine biotechnopark "Ostrovnoy" has been approved.

"The meeting was devoted to a major investment project of a company from China on the development of mariculture. Actually what the Primorsky Territory needs. Chinese investors come not only with money, but also with technology. It is well known that this country is today the number one in the world for the production of mariculture" - Vladimir Miklushevsky said after the meeting.

The head of the region stressed that during the talks various technical issues of land plots granting to the investor were discussed.

"Currently, Wen Lien Aquaculture is doing business in the Olginsky district of Primorye, to expand its activities, the investor asks to provide land in Popov Island. We, of course, will support this project" - the Governor declared.

Note that the Primorsky Territory is one of the most favorable regions in Russia for mariculture breeding. Moreover, it isone of the most important directions of the region's economy. The regional budget annually allocates subsidies to enterprises operating in this industry. Last year, the volume of support amounted to about 19 million rubles, and in the current year it is more than 20 million rubles.

More than 50 enterprises are engaged in aquaculture business in Primorye at 102 sites with an area of ​​more than 18,000 hectares. In 2016 Primorye enterprises have grown 6,5 thousand tons of products, basically it is a Primorye scallop and Far-Eastern trepang (sea cucumber).

For the reference: since 2013, the Chinese corporation Wen Lian Aquaculture finances the company "Biobank", created for the development of mariculture, scallop and trepang, in the Olginsky district of Primorye. "Biobank" receives subsidies from the regional budget for reimbursement of part of the costs of growing and resetting the vigorous juvenile of trepang obtained in the factory.

Last December, a new company, "Oriental Marine Products" was established, the main purpose of which will be the cultivation of a wider range of marine aquaculture - gray sea urchin, scallop, trepang, laminaria and wooly-handed crab. The company intends to become a resident of the Free Port of Vladivostok.
