AKUREY AK-10 launched in Turkey

October 3, 2016 10:56

HB Grandi’s newbuilding Akurey AK-10 was launched at the Celiktrans shipyard near Istanbul in Turkey earlier today. Eirikur Jónsson, skipper of Sturlaugur H. Böðvarsson, was present at the launching and he takes over as Akurey’s skipper, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to the company.

Akurey is the Celiktrans newbulding number CS 49 and is the second of three trawlers for HB Grandi that are designed to land fresh catches that are being built at the Turkish yard. The yard previously delivered pelagic vessels Venus and Víkingur for the company.

According to marine superintendent Thórarin Sigurbjörnsson, who has been overseeing the newbuilds on HB Grandi’s behalf,  Akurey’s construction commenced last winter. The yard started building the blocks towards the end of 2015 and the keel was formally laid early in 2016. The ships’ propulsion system has already been placed on board, as have the winches and other items. Work starts on fitting the electrical systems, pipework, accommodation and much else as soon as the launch is complete.

Akurey’s specifications:

Length overall, 54.75m
Beam, 13.50m
Displacement, 1830 tonnes
Fishroom capacity, 815 cubic metres
Main engine, 1799kW
Propeller diameter, 3800mm
Accommodation is for a crew of up to 17. All of the cabins are single, apart from one larger cabin.

‘As this is one of a series, the build speed with this ship is much faster than with Engey, which will be ready for delivery soon. Akurey’s scheduled delivery date is in early 2017. All of the work below the waterline is complete, including the tranducers, stern gear, rudder and much else. Once the work on board is complete, the ship will be prepared for sea trials,’ Thórarin Sigurbjörnsson said
