The lead processor trawler of the KMT01 project "Barents Sea", built at the Vyborg Shipyard (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, USC), has started production at sea, reports Megafishnet.com.

According to Portnews, a series of four processor trawlers of the KMT01 project has been under construction at the Vyborg Shipyard since 2017 for the Arkhangelsk Trawl Fleet (part of the North-West Fishing Consortium). The conceptual design was developed by the Norwegian naval architects Skipsteknisk, with the project adapted to the class of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping by the Marine Engineering Bureau.

The vessels of this series are designed for harvesting bottom fish species and the production of headed and gutted fish, fillets, roe and liver of cod, fishmeal and fishoil directly onboard.

The lead ship of the Barents Sea series was laid down at the Vyborg Shipyard on May 31, 2017, and delivered to the customer in September 2020.

The Barents Sea is the first large-capacity fishing vessel built at Russian shipyards.

The trawler won the Baird Maritime Awards in the category "Best Fish Processing Vessel of 2020". Such indicators as innovation, reliability and economy were taken into account.
