Catch by Icelandic vessels substantially down in January

Total catch by Icelandic vessels in January was 55,000 metric tons vs. 72,000 tons in January 2009 - down 17,000 tons or 23.6 percent, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Iceland Seafood International. 

Catch by main categories:

The groundfish catch was 31,300 tons (down 1,700 tons or 5.1 percent).

The pelagic catch was 22,000 tons (down 14,500 tons or 40.3 percent).

Valued at fixed prices, total landings in January came down by 6.9 percent compared with January 2009.
