Belarus increasing seafood imports

In January-July 2006 Belarus imported 109,600 metric tons of fish boosting this indicator by 8.9% on the same period last year 2005, according to the nation’s Ministry of Statistics and Analysis.

In value terms, the country’s imports grew by 18.6% to 138.1 million USD.

The CIS members exported to Belarus 58,800 tonnes of fish, the figure exceeding the corresponding result of last year by 15.6%. The value of seafood imports from CIS amounted to 59.8 million USD.

Foreign countries exported 50,800 tonnes of seafood products to Belarus (a 2% increase on the same period 2005) worth 78.3 million USD.

The largest supplier was Norway which exported to Belarus 13,600 tonnes of seafood worth 24.2 million USD.
