Re-designed website focuses on fish farming

The newly redesigned website of Mainstream Canada, the second largest producer of farmed salmon in BC, goes live on the internet June 11, 2010, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Mainstream Canada.

www.mainstreamcanada.com provides insightful, current and accurate information on salmon farming and the role Mainstream plays in ensuring salmon farming remains a sustainable food resource industry in British Columbia.

The redesign of the website includes detailed overviews of fish farming, environmental reports, product information, site location maps, slide presentations and links to other aquaculture information resources.

"Our vision for the website is based on providing objective information about our company and its operations, "says Fernando Villarroel, Managing Director of Mainstream Canada. " As a company we pride ourselves on the fact that our business is focused on sustainability at the social, environmental and economic levels. The website will help people understand fish farming on a deeper level and what impact it has locally and on a global scale."

"The site is easily accessible for everyone," added Laurie Jensen, Environmental, Licenses and Community Relations Manager. "We even have detailed information on sea lice monitoring reports for each of our 24 farms. In addition, visitors to the website can read about how we manage fish health, the nutritional value of farmed salmon and learn more about fish farming practices."

The site also includes information on the corporate structure, research and development as well as clearly stated beliefs on its mission and vision for sustainability. Along with information on career opportunities, news items and links to Mainstream Canada Twitter and Facebook pages, visitors will discover an ever evolving recipe section.

"Quite frankly there has been a lot of misinformation about fish farming that has been distributed," said Jensen. "We hope our site will clarify some of these misconceptions and direct people to other sources that will help people make informed decisions about our industry and our company."

Mainstream Canada's head office is located in Campbell River on Vancouver Island, BC. Mainstream operates 3 land based hatcheries, 24 farms and 2 processing plants, one of which is contracted out locally. Mainstream employs over 250 BC residents and First Nations peoples. It is the second largest aquaculture company in BC.
