Oyster culture booming in Russia’s ex-Olympic region
Oyster production in the Krasnodar Territory near Sochi where the Olympic Winter Games 2014 has tripled during the last five years. Now the local farmers harvest ca. 190 metric tons of Black Sea oysters per year.
Shellfish culture is a promising sector for the region’s economy. If the growth rates in the production volumes persist, Sochi and the surrounded region will become the largest supplier of oysters both on the regional and on the national level.
