ASC Gears Up to Pangasius Certification

July 6, 2011 16:27

Prior to certification the farms are obliged to become accredited through training. They must show proof of a satisfying level of experience, qualifications and  internal administration. Following the training, the certification bodies are ready to start certifying farms. The first accreditation training will take place in Vietnam on September 6 - 8. The cost of this training will be announced end of July, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Aquaculture Stewardship Council.

Through ASC's unique and transparent multi-stakeholder process, the important milestone of finalising the Pangasius Standard has been reached. The Standard for responsible Pangasius farming has been developed through an open and inclusive process, in which thousands of stakeholders participated globally. The next step will be to kick off the implementation phase. This involves finalising the Auditor Guidance Manual, agreeing on certification bodies requirements, organising training for certification bodies, developing the  ASC consumer facing logo amongst many other tasks.

For more information about the accreditation training, please contact ASC Standards Director Bas Geerts on +31 (0)30 230 5927.
