Russian salmon production more than doubled in 5 years

According to preliminary data from Russia’s Federal Agency for Fisheries for 2019, the aquaculture production of salmon species in the Russian Federation has more than doubled compared to the indicators of 2015 (44.9 thousand tons), amounting to 90.8 thousand tonnes.

Compared to 2018, the growth was 36.4% (from about 67 thousand tons).

The most significant growth dynamics compared to last year was shown by the production of brown algae, which increased by 2.3 times, to 10.6 thousand tonnes.

The top three in terms of growth rates also include invertebrates and sturgeon, whose production in 2019 increased by 2.2 times and by 43.9%, to 21.9 thousand tonness and 6.3 thousand tonnes, respectively.

Over the four quarters of last year, the total output of aquaculture products increased by 20.16% compared to the indicators of 2018, hitting 286.78 thousand tons.
