Baltiisky Bereg Company planning to raise farmed salmon harvest

Thanks to multimillion investments into aquaculture Saint-Petersburg-based seafood producer Baltiisky Bereg is planning to raise its farmed salmon output to 40,000 MT by 2013, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Rybatskaya Gazeta.

In 2011 the company produced 3,000 MT of salmon, the figure to grow to 10,000 MT in 2012 and 40,000 MT in a couple of years.

In 2009 Baltiisky Bereg purchased fish farms, invested USD 70 million into their development and its future plans provides for further investments into development of its aquaculture operations.

Despite salmon farming is an important part of its development strategy nowadays farmed salmon is not key product for the company. Salmon products account only for ca.20% of its commodity output, while 60% is taken by marinated fish products and the remaining 20% - by seaweed-based products. In 2012 the company plans to raise its salmon production to 40% against the background of rising demand.
