Agenda highlights progress of Russian-Korean fishery cooperation

On 27 March 2009 Moscow saw completion of additional negotiations within the 18th session of the Russian-Korean Fisheries Commission, reports www.fishnet-russia.com (www.fishnet.ru) with reference to Russia's Federal Fisheries Agency.

At the meeting the Korean delegation made a presentation of a draft intergovernmental agreement on prevention and liquidation of illegal, unreported and unregulated fisheries.

In the course of discussion the sides agreed on further steps towards final consents for the document and its preparation for signing. Besides, at the talks the participants reached agreement about specific conditions for operations of Korean fishing vessels in the Russian EEZ in 2009 and looked into potential expansion of Korean investments into development of the Russian fishery sector in the nation's Far East with respect to agreements reached in the course of the visit of Russia's fishery industry head Andrey Krainy to South Korea in March 2009.
