Russia to start directed saithe fishery / November 16, 2006 11:20

At the recent 35th meeting of the Mixed Russian-Norwegian Fisheries Commission the parties have noted that the rational management of the saithe stock has led to its stabilization at a high level.

In this situation the Russian side has notified the Norwegians that it will conduct a directed fishery for saithe in 2007 in a volume of up to 10,000 tonnes in the Russian EEZ.

The saithe by-catch in the cod and haddock fishery in the Russian EEZ will be limited to 49% of the total landed catch.

Russia has also submitted data on the saithe distribution on the entire area of the Barents Sea and informed Norway about its intention to conduct a survey of abundance of saithe juveniles in the Russian EEZ.
